诗歌背景资料：
诗作者是Isaac Watts(以撒－华兹,1674-1748)
一六九四年之前，英国教堂只可听见“音律诗篇”。相传华兹的父亲鼓励华兹写新歌——圣诗《看神羔羊荣耀大光》就此诞生。
这诗瞬间激起极大涟漪，华兹后来花了不少时日，才劝服当代教会人士一事：“基督徒不但可以用神所默示的诗篇敬拜神，也可以用人手创作的灵歌敬拜神。”类似的争议今日仍然存在——有些教会崇拜只能选唱“圣诗”，决不容让会众唱“新歌”。
华兹说得好：“用诗歌述说神的荣耀，用歌声向神倾吐心中的喜乐——是敬拜真神的极致。”
《喜乐歌》首见于华兹一七零七《圣诗与灵歌》。有人推测华兹写这诗是为驳斥那些不愿接纳“人手所作之诗”的人——第一节开首就说“爱主信徒快来”、第二节又说“不认识神的人，任凭他们闭口”——这些歌词骤眼看来，似乎真有这样的意味。
